Lady Gaga is delivering this year’s keynote address at SXSW. While Gaga is one of the biggest pop stars in the world, some are asking, “Why should we listen to HER?”
In the wasteland of news story comment sections, I see this refrain over and over. “She’s a major label artist. How can any regular person possibly apply her advice to their life or career?”
Now I don’t know what Lady Gaga will say this week. The keynote could very well could be full of spacey ramblings. But dismissing an outrageously talented and successful person’s experience so prematurely is just plain foolish.
I work with a powerhouse CEO of an insurance company. His speaking engagements impress me every single time. He could teach musicians a thing or two about stage presence. He could show marketers what it means to engage an audience.
Life isn’t made up of neat little silos. We can’t isolate our experiences and apply their lessons so narrowly.
